Batch identification and traceability in the laboratory

A batch identifier links a physical item on a shelf to the documentation produced for it. Without that link, results cannot be attributed reliably to the material used.

Recording the batch identifier at the point of receipt, and again at the point of use, makes it possible to revisit a result months later and retrieve the documentation associated with the material.
